Buying a used phone: what to check

  • Unlocked vs. carrier: all phones listed as unlocked work with Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile and their prepaid brands.
  • Battery health: iPhones show it in Settings; we list the number. 85%+ is good for daily use.
  • Activation Lock: every phone is signed out of Apple, Google and Samsung accounts and reset before sale.
  • Storage: 128GB is plenty for most people; go higher if you shoot a lot of video.
